One of the most consistent franchises in IPL over the years, Sunrisers Hyderabad opted for a coaching shake-up replacing Tom Moody who led them to a league title in 2016, with another serial winner in Trevor Bayliss.
Trevor Bayliss, who won the World Cup with England this year and has a couple of IPL titles to boot with KKR, will be assisted by former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin.
David Warner was reinstated as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, two years after stepping down because of his international ban for ball-tampering.
Warner replaced Kane Williamson as the skipper of Hyderbad based franchise. Sunrisers became a part of the Indian Premier League in 2013 when they replaced Deccan Chargers, whose franchise contract was terminated.
Since then, Sunrisers have played two finals and won one. In fact, the team has qualified for the play-off stage of the tournament in every season since 2016.
The biggest reason behind the success of SRH is that over the years, their auction strategies have been excellent credit to their impressive think-tank.
Former skipper David Warner and India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been the lynchpin of SRH over the past few seasons.
Warner is the leading run-scorer for the SRH, having won the Orange Cap most no. of times (3), in 2015, 2017 and 2019 whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been their leading wicket-taker.
Sunrisers have a formidable and experienced top three in the form of David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson. To back up an already imposing axis of Warner-Bairstow-Williamson, they have got an inform Manish Pandey at No.4.
These batsmen will have to do the bulk of the scoring again upfront since their Indian core is relatively inexperienced. SRH boasts of one of the best bowling attacks in the tournament, often admired for its ability to defend low totals.
This time also their bowling is power-packed with many Indian options on offer. However, Bhuvneshwar’s presence is a must and he is the one that can make a huge difference at the death.
Other pacers like Sidharth Kaul and Khaleel Ahmed can rally around him. Rashid Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem are two strong options in the spin department.
